Significant alterations and additions to a Californian bungalow, Oak Tree House has been designed around a series of garden settings to enjoy the seasons throughout the year.
Designed across a single level to allow for ageing in place, the new addition is sited as a separate pavilion to the original house and connected by a gentle ramp. Stretching alongside and to the north is a 14m long lap pool, which in addition to the amenity it offers for recreation and exercise, passively cools the house and creates a natural kinetic backdrop to the original and new addition.
Extensive root mapping was undertaken to sensitively retain a large oak tree which became the springboard for the house in framing the landscape. Each room of Oak Tree House has an outlook to a garden, encouraging a strong, daily connection to nature.
